Martin Smolka composed his five-part Studies for Bambini in close cooperation with Bohumil Kulínský, who in 1982 invited him to write songs regardless of their technical difficulty, because he wanted to demonstrate that children's choir are easily on a par with "the grown-ups". And so in that same year Martin Smolka composed these virtuosic studies in which he makes extensive use of the expressive means of new music, as well as of jazz elements.
